Statement
“The
Privacy Act 1993 seeks to provide protection for individual
privacy in relation to the collection, use, access, correction
and disclosure of personal information held by any public and
private sector "agency" (e.g. Waitakere City Council). Personal
information may be collected only for a lawful purpose connected
with a function or activity of the Council and only if necessary
for that purpose. Such information must, as a general rule, be
collected directly from the individual concerned and that person
must be told why the information is needed.
The Council holds information about ratepayers and residents of
Waitakere City in its role as an agency. This information is
required for lawful purposes used in the functioning of
Waitakere City Council, and is sourced and held in accordance
with Principle 2 and Part 7 (Public Registers) of the Privacy
Act. You have the right to access information about yourself and
have it corrected (an application must be made in writing).
Enquiries about or formal requests for information in relation
to the Privacy Act 1993 or the
Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987
should be made in writing to: Manager - Democracy & Support
Services.
Please note that we may collect website visitors’ contact
information, e.g. email addresses. This information may be used
to send general promotional material about our activities, which
we believe may be useful to you. Notwithstanding this, we would
only use or disclose personal information that you have provided
to us or which we have obtained about you if:
- You have authorised us to do so;
- We have informed you of the intended use or disclosure and
you have not objected to that use or disclosure; or
- We are authorised, required or permitted by law to use or
disclose the information e.g. for law enforcement.

Linking Policy
General Guidelines
We welcome opportunities to link to external sites that
contain information that is useful or relevant to people and
business in Waitakere. Our guidelines are:
Waitakere Online shall not link to external sites which
contain content that demonstrates:
- Criminal or violent behaviour;
- Pornographic or obscene or objectionable material;
- Defamatory material;
- Offensive material;
- Material that is harmful to minors;
- Inaccurate or outdated information; and
- Is otherwise deemed not relevant or appropriate.
During the pre-election period, which is the 3 month period
prior to the date of an election, Waitakere Online shall not
link to external sites which contain content that:
- Promotes (or could be perceived to promote) the re-election
prospects of any sitting member or new candidate.
- Defames any sitting member or candidate or disadvantage their
prospects.
Severance of Links
Should the Editorial Board become aware of any links to
external sites which may contain content that conflicts with the
guidelines above, links between these and Waitakere Online shall
be considered by the Board. Should the material be deemed
inappropriate, the links will be immediately removed. There is
no requirement to advise the operators of the offending site(s)
of this action.
